RODDY Woomble first toured the world as frontman of the Scottish indie band Idlewild. He has gone on to establish himself as a leading voice in the thriving British contemporary indie folk music scene, latterly touring Britain in celebration of the tenth anniversary of his debut solo album, My Secret Is My Silence. The Crescent in York awaits him on Sunday at 7.30pm.

Growing up between America, France and Britain, Woomble lived in Glasgow and New York City before settling on Mull in the Western Isles of Scotland, from where he hosts the annual Iona Village Hall Music Festival.

Bringing past and present together, Woomble has published a book entitled Instrumentals, a collection of words, lyrics and photographs from tours fronting Idlewild, solo albums and his life in Scottish Hebrides.

A new album is anticipated in 2017, one that will see Woomble "take a darker, more lo-fi direction held together by his trademark poetic lyrics, evocative vocals and gift for a tune".

Tickets cost £15 at pleasepleaseyou.com or in person from The Inkwell, in Gillygate, York and Jumbo Records in Leeds. Sunday's support act will be Andrew Wasylyk.
