HAVE manager Janet Farmer and her assistant James Duffy ever put together a better season of music shows at Pocklington Arts Centre?

Kate Rusby, KT Tunstall, Joan As Policewoman, Hot 8 Brass Band, Ward Thomas, Oyster 3, Reveal Records Tenth Anniversary Gala Concert, a sold-out Lloyd Cole, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Pock favourite, whatever the weather, Andy Fairweather Low, The Blues Band, The East Pointers, Ryley Walker, Justin Currie and The Pallbearers, Le Vent du Nord, Newton Faulkner, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Holly Macve, will this sentence ever draw breath?

Barnsley folk queen Kate Rusby will lead off Pock Arts Centre's Platform Festival at The Old Station on July 12; the people's folk band, Levellers will be in action on July 14 and Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall will top the festival's all-day Saturday bill, running from 1pm. Chart-topping sisters Ward Thomas, guitarist and singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner, York singer-songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Bella Union's latest impeccable signing, country-noir singer Holly Macve, all will play too, Macve showcasing her Golden Eagle debut album that has drawn comparison with Lana Del Rey and Lucinda Williams, the stellar turn of last year's festival.

Oyster 3, alias "folk-rock legends Oysterband from a different angle", line up with John Jones, Alan Prosser and Ian Telfer on March 7; the Reveal Records anniversary weekend features a solo Joan As Police Woman on both March 11 and 12, plus Kris Drever, from Lau, Richard J Birkin and Dan Whitehouse on the first night.

Lloyd Cole revisits his catalogue from 1983 Commotions days to 1996 on April 1; fiddler Aly Bain and accordion player Phil Cunningham combine in the best traditions of the folk tradition on April 6; Andy Fairweather Low recalls Amen Corner and so much more on April 8; The Blues Band, Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, Tom McGuinness et al, celebrate 37 Years And Back For More on April 21; New Orleans jazz, funk and hip-hop powerhouse Hot 8 Brass Band play Pock for the first time on May 11.

The East Pointers' slew of Celtic-inspired tunes and original songs can be heard on May 23; Ryley Walker, American singer, songwriter and, more to the point, sublime guitarist in the Bert Jansch mould, will be performing with his full band on May 27; Del Amitri frontman Justin Currie leads The Pallbearers on May 29; Le Vent Du Nord play their Quebecois folk music on June 14.

As if the spring and summer were not a galaxy of stars already, more are on their way: Scottish folk singer Barbara Dickson on September 22 and Jon Boden, in his post-Bellowhead days, in a solo show on November 6.
