YORK Light Orchestra is launching its 70th anniversary celebration with a call-out for musicians to join the ensemble.

An open rehearsal will be held on Thursday, March 9 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Acomb Methodist Church Hall. "Everyone and anyone who plays – or has played – an orchestral instrument is welcome to come along and join us for a fun evening of music making," says secretary Karen Nash. "There's no obligation to join or pay a fee. We're looking to make new friends as part of our 70th anniversary preparations."

Who would York Light Orchestra hope to attract to the rehearsal? "All musicians are invited, if you haven’t played for a while; if you play with other groups; if you would like to use your musical talent to support local charities; or if you just fancy a fun, musical night out," says Karen.

In particular, the orchestra is seeking to recruit a percussionist and a trumpet player urgently. "If you might be interested, please get in touch or come along to the rehearsal," says Karen.
