NATIONAL treasures Madness are to play Scarborough Open Air Theatre on August 3 next summer, whether the weather brings The Sun And The Rain or neither.

Tickets for the Camden Town Nutty Boys' first outdoor concert in North Yorkshire since the York Racecourse Music Showcase Weekend in July 2010 go on sale at 9am tomorrow.

This year, Madness followed up a summer appearance on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage with their 11th studio album, Can't Touch Us Now, which entered the charts at number five in October and featured the hit single Mr Apples.

Formed in 1976, Madness now comprise Chris Foreman, guitar, Mike Barson, keyboards, Lee Thompson, saxophone, Graham "Suggs" McPherson, vocals, Dan Woodgate, drums, and Mark Bedford, bass, but Carl Smyth, alias Chas Smash, left the line-up before the latest album.

Since emerging in the ska revival of the late 1970s, Madness have chalked up 15 Top Ten singles such as Our House, It Must Be Love, One Step Beyond, My Girl, Wings Of A Dove and Baggy Trousers. Known for their cheeky humour and music-hall panache, the self-confessed “dysfunctional family" continue to tour regularly.

Tickets can be booked from tomorrow morning at scarboroughopenairtheatre.com or ticketmaster.co.uk, on 01723 818111, 01723 383636 or 0844 844 0444, or in person from the theatre box office, in Burniston Road, or the Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Bureau, in Scarborough Town Hall, St Nicholas Street.
