PRIMA Vocal Ensemble, Prima Vox chamber choir and all-female Prima Cantica choir will unite for a groundbreaking Christmas Gala Concert under the artistic directorship of Ewa Salecka at Central Methodist Chapel, St Saviourgate, York, on December 17 .

"We're very proud to complement the many Christmas events in York with an evening that brings together our three talented choirs in concert together for the first time," says Ewa.

"With a brand new repertoire of contemporary seasonal pieces, they will perform multi-genre music ranging from living classical composers to stunning jazz and soul arrangement of familiar tunes."

The Christmas With Prima Choral Artists programme will span a cappella works to a full 170-voice chorus and a celebration of British composers from Cecilia McDowall and Rutter to Todd, Willcocks and Edward Elgar.

Professional accompaniment will be provided by pianist Greg Birch and guest musicians Catherine Strachan and Ellen Brookes on violins and organist Robert Smith at the console of one of York's finest organs.

"It's been two years since we presented a Christmas event in York, although all three choirs have enjoyed a fantastic 2016 performing in our home city; in Harrogate's Royal Hall; at Manchester Royal Northern College of Music and London's Cadogan Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin," says Ewa. "Now we're delighted we'll be celebrating Christmas in unique style, under one roof, for one unmissable gala celebration."

Tickets for this 7.30pm Prima triple bill cost £5 to £12 on 01904 623568 or at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk or £5 to £15 on the door.
