JESS Glynne is the second big name to be confirmed for York Racecourse's newly expanded programme of racing and music double bills, in the wake of Olly Murs's show being booked already.

Glynne, one of the biggest breakthrough artists in Britain in the past year, will perform a one-off show at the Knavesmire course after the evening race card on Friday, July 28, in the first of two Music Showcase concerts that weekend.

“It’s going to be great fun playing York Racecourse," said the 27-year-old Londoner, who enjoyed chart-topping, double platinum-selling success with her debut album I Cry When I Laugh. "I love outdoor shows and can’t wait to share the summer evening with my fans.”

James Brennan, head of marketing and sponsorship at the racecourse, said: “Everyone at the course is really excited that Jess Glynne will be performing here; the 2017 music line up already looks fantastic.”

The artist performing on the second date of the Music Showcase Weekend on July 29 is yet to be announced, so watch this space, but tickets for Jess Glynne show are on sale now at yorkracecourse.co.uk or by phoning 01904 620911.

Olly Murs@ on course for York raceday concert

Olly Murs's concert is to take place on Saturday, July 1, a new raceday on the Knavesmire calendar which sees York Racecourse introduce a third concert for the first time.

The Essex pop singer and television presenter, now 32, shot to fame as the runner-up on the 2009 series of The X Factor, since when he made four multi-platinum albums and notched up four number one singles, while clocking up record sales exceeding ten million. His latest album, 24 HRS, entered the charts in the top spot last month.

Murs previously played a Music Showcase concert on the Knavesmire course in 2010. "I'm really looking forward to playing York Racecourse next summer," he said. "It'll be one of the first chances I'll get to play tracks from 24 HRS in the sunshine so will be a special show to share with my fans. I love a day out at the races too, so can't wait to get in the crowd during the day to place a cheeky bet."

This will be the first of two North Yorkshire outdoor concerts by Murs next summer. He will play Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Sunday, July 9, with the box office opening at 9am today at ticketmaster.co.uk and scarboroughopenairtheatre.com. Tickets will be available in person too from the box office in Burniston Road.
