IF at first you do succeed, why not succeed again, reckons Vampires Rock producer and frontman Steve Steinman.

After achieving more than a million ticket sales from 3,000 performances of his gothic rock musical over the past decade, the Nottingham impresario is mounting a gory, hit-packed sequel, inviting you all aboard the Vampires Rock Ghost Train.

Premiered in 2015, and booked into the Grand Opera House in York for a 7.30pm performance on Thursday, Steinman's Ghost Train "ramps up the vamp" for a night of mischief and mayhem "packed with aerial silk stunts, fangtastic fire routines, guitar gods and sexy vampettes", and rock anthems by Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Meat Loaf et al, performed by a band on stage.

"It's the next chapter in the saga," says Steve, who plays the vampire Baron Von Rockula. "What's happened is that the old Vampires Rock was set in the Live And Let Die Club – there's a song title in everything I do! – and now all the vampires have fled the ill-fated club to take refuge in an old fairground's ghost train ride. So we lure people there and on goes the carnage!

"We have a new character called Van Halensing, a vampire slayer played by John Evans, who's trying to kill the vampires and protect people from coming on to my ghost train ride. People like Hayley Russell's Roxy Honeybox, the young victim who we've lured there to turn into the next Mrs Baron Von Rockula."

Look out too for Bosley, another role for John Evans. "He's Baron Von Rockula's gopher, his fixer-upper, the odd-job man, who fixes the ride and tries to entice people on board," says Steve.

What songs can Thursday's audience expect? "Van Halensing will obviously sing Jump, Van Halen's best song; we'll also have Bon Jovi's Shot Through The Heart and AC/DC's Thunder, and we've got to have Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell," says Steve. "You can't not finish with that one. It's the best finishing song in the world. Even if I did an ABBA show, I'd still have it in there!"

Steve is ever busy, whether with his musicals or his Vampires Rock clothing line or managing a new youth motocross team, Vampires Rock Motul Racing, featuring his son, Ozzie. Or even painting the set for Vampires Rock Ghost Train the day before this interview. "I can't help myself," he says.

"I've just written a new show called Iconic, The Show, featuring the best of the best soundtracks from some of the most iconic movies of all time. All the cool stuff from the movies, such as David Bowie, Tina Turner, AC/DC, Prince, Elvis and Paul McCartney. That'll be touring next spring and York will be one of the venues."

Iconic, The Show will visit the Grand Opera House on May 19, preceded by Hull City Hall on May 11, both at 7.30pm. Next year too, Steve's motocross team will be revving up once more. "How it's come about is that I used to ride as a boy, and now my lad Ozzie, who's 12, is doing it. Through the summer I'll be running the team."
