DID you know that PP Arnold was one of the original Ikettes with the Ike and Tina Turner Experience?

She went on to become an originator of the British soul scene before being spotted by The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and catapulted to stardom with her renditions of the Cat Stevens song The First Cut Is The Deepest and Angel Of The Morning.

Next Tuesday, she will be a special guest for the Maximum Rhythm N' Blues With The Manfreds show at the Grand Opera House, York, when Zoot Money will be a guest too.

The Manfreds are celebrating 25 years since their re-formation, touring with a line-up of Manfred Mann frontmen Paul Jones and Mike d'Abo, founding members Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness and additions Rob Townsend, Marcus Cliffe and Simon Currie.

Manfred Mann formed in 1962, securing their place in the history of British popular music with such hits as 5-4-3-2-1, Do Wah Diddy, Pretty Flamingo, Sha La La and Bob Dylan's The Mighty Quinn. All these will feature in next Tuesday's set list, along with the Mike D'Abo-penned Build Me Up Buttercup and Handbags And Gladrags, later a hit for both Rod Stewart and Stereophonics.

Guest Zoot Money was the founder of The Big Roll Band, of Big Time Operator fame, and he was a fixtures at the infamous Flamingo Club in Wardour Street, the birthplace of British R'n'B music at the heart of the swinging Sixties.
