THE "definitive Oasis documentary", Supersonic, will be broadcast live from the Manchester premiere in a 7.15pm screening at City Screen, York, on Sunday.

This will be followed by an exclusive livestream Q&A with singer Liam Gallagher and director Mat Whitecross, who teamed up with Amy and Senna documentary maker Asif Kapadia to tackle the game-changing Britpop leviathans.

Executive producer Kapadia and director Whitecross, who made the music films Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll in 2010 and Spike Island in 2012, were given unprecedented access to Oasis’s archive. Whitecross has duly created a patchwork of rarities from the Oasis vault, woven together with new interviews with the Manchester band as they look back– sometimes in anger! – on their experiences.

Supersonic follows the Gallagher brothers' rags-to-riches journey from a Manchester council estate in 1991 to the release of their first single, Supersonic, to selling out stadiums, culminating in their record-breaking Knebworth performance on August 10 1996. Liam and Noel’s furious feuding and the mayhem and excesses of the band were a magnet for the press, and here the brothers speak unusually candidly about their fractious relationship and rise to fame as the 122-minute film tells the story behind the Britpop phenomenon.

Supersonic (15) will go on general release at cinemas on October 7 and will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download from October 31. Tickets for Sunday's show are on sale on 0871 902 5726, at picturehouses.com/cinema/York or at oasisfilmtickets.com
