NOT, as one might imagine, an Italian-American spoof crooner, but an intriguing British oddity that's well worth a listen.
Londoner Lookman Adekunle Salami, to give him his full name, only picked up a guitar for the first time a few years ago, but listening to his delicate finger-picking style on opening number Going Mad As The Street Bins, you'd never know it.
Stylistically, the style is somewhere between Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and Jake Bugg, with elements of a more restrained Jack White sneaking in with some of the heavier electric guitar elements, and a hip-hop aspect that's both confrontational and fun.
Vocally, Salami's delivery on standout tracks like Anything's Greener Than Burnt Grass and I Wear This Because Life Is War, come across as a little early Bowie - tongue in cheek, almost Anthony Newley, with a dash of Alex Turner to boot.
A highly enjoyable album, with a mix of styles and one that demands repeat listening, and introduces L.A. Salami and what he calls his "postmodern blues", as a talent to keep an eye on in the future.
