ACCORDING to a well known online font of knowledge, Pup is a Canadian punk band. However, the haircuts and beards tell another story, so does the music.

This is like Green Day's take on the genre, with more than a soupçon of Queens Of The New Stone Age thrown in the mix. That's no bad thing and the result is a blistering, shouty, 31 minute, 100 mph roller coaster ride.

Lyrically it's quite dark. At times feral and self loathing, at others downright angry. There are even threats of physical violence: If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You I Will.

Indeed Pup themselves seem hell-bent on self destruction, from their insane tour schedules to Stefan Babcock's intense delivery, despite doctor's orders that he is literally shredding his vocal cords and that will finish the singer's career. Hence the album's name.

Somehow it's not over, not yet at any rate, and should Babcock's voice hold up, this oddball band will too. If they manage to stay alive that long.
