IDIOSYNCRATIC six-piece British Sea Power variously originate from Yorkshire, Cumbria, Ealing and Shropshire but are now based in East Sussex and on the Isle Of Skye.
On Saturday, Yan Scott Wilkinson, Neil Hamilton Wilkinson, Martin Noble, Matthew Wood, Abi Fry and Phil Sumner set their course for Fibbers, buoyed by this endorsement from promoter Tim Hornsby.
"If you believe in music, if you believe in bands following their own muse and not fashion, if you believe in musicians that can uplift and inspire, then this is the show for you."
British Sea Power have enjoyed a diverse array of cultural endorsement, from the late David Bowie and Lou Reed, to Jarvis Cocker, Radiohead, Bill Oddie, the National Maritime Museum, Bill Bailey, Jeremy Vine, Julian Cope, Caitlin Moran, Peter Capaldi, Grace Dent and Professor Brian Cox.
In a poll of BBC 6Music listeners of the 100 most important tracks of the station’s lifetime, British Sea Power's Remember Me made the number nine spot, just above Radiohead, just below Johnny Cash. The placing indicates both the band’s longevity and the deeply dedicated nature of their audience.
Saturday's support act will be Stereoscope; doors open at 7.30pm. Box office: fibbers.co.uk
