POCKLINGTON Arts Centre has made two new musical signings for its autumn season: veteran rock'n'roller Joe Brown on November 17 and soprano Lesley Garrett on December 8.

For the first time, at 75, Joe Brown is to tell the story of his life in music hall, skiffle, rock'n'roll, theatre, films, television, radio and even the circus, in Just Joe: "the man by himself, uncut, solo, uncensored".

In this "audience with Joe" event, he will discuss his early days, growing up in a pub in London’s East End; discovering skiffle; becoming a rock'n'roll pioneer; touring with Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury and Gene Vincent and headlining shows with The Beatles as his opening act.

"The heady days of rock'n'roll will be laid bare and the evening promises to be an intimate glimpse into the hectic world of one of Britain’s most enduring and best loved performers," says James Duffy, Pock Arts Centre's assistant manager.

In addition to stories and anecdotes, Just Joe will feature plenty of music, for which Joe will be aided and abetted by an old friend, American guitarist Henry Gross, founder of the group Shah Na Nah.

Just like Joe, South Yorkshire soprano Lesley Garrett, 61, will present an evening of song, reminiscences and chat in An Evening With Lesley Garrett. Her behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes will give an insight into her life on the stage, whether touring in her own shows or singing with Opera North.

Tickets for Brown's 8pm show and Garrett's 7.30pm show are on sale on 01759 301547 or at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk/
