MOD musicians from York are joining forces tomorrow night to present Pete Townshend's rock opera Quadrophenia at the Grand Opera House in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Buoyed by the 7.30pm concert having sold out already, The York All Stars line-up will perform The Who's 1973 album in its entirety as they tell the story in song of Jimmy Cooper, a young mod in 1960s' London.

Taking part will be the York acts The SuperModels, Melting Pot and The 5:15s, as well as an ensemble of York musicians in the All Star House Band. After the Quadrophenia songs from 7,30pm to 8.50pm, Melting Pot will play a set from 9.10pm and The 5:15s from 9.50pm before everyone unites for a closing number.

Joining The SuperModels, fronted by Jon Stewart, will be the All Stars musicians Martin Longhawn, on synthesiser, organ and piano; brother David Longhawn, on keyboards; Martin Ledger, on guitar; Ian Chalk, on trumpet and horn; Stuart Wilkinson, on trombone; Charlotte Trueman, on violin, and Melting Pot's Paul Downes, on vocals.

Event organiser David Sykes, from The SuperModels, said: “In 2014, a close friend associated with the band, Ian “Hodge” Hodgkinson, sadly passed away at the age of 54, due to cancer. He received amazing support and help from Macmillan throughout his illness, and we felt it a fitting tribute to help raise much needed funds to ensure Macmillan can continue to carry out their vital work."

All proceeds will go towards supporting Macmillan services in York.
