GREEN Day’s American Idiot musical will play Bridlington Spa from June 7 to 11 with a cast led by singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner and The X Factor's Amelia Lily in the only Yorkshire dates of its 2016 tour.

The story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post-9/11 world, is built around the post-punk music of Green Day with lyrics by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Armstrong and Michael Mayer.

Lily, who came third in The X Factor's 2011 series, rejoins fellow cast members, Steve Rushton, Lucas Rush and Alexis Gerred, in the role of Whatsername, having appeared at Bridlington Spa previously as the Narrator in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat incidentally. Guitarist and singer Faulkner will play Johnny in a show that won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Among the Green Day songs will be Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday and the title track their 2004 Grammy Award-winning album, American Idiot, plus songs from 2009's 21st Century Breakdown and an unreleased love song, When It’s Time.

The touring production is directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, with musical supervision by Richard Morris, sound by Chris Whybrow, design by Sara Perks and lighting by Tim Deiling.
