RYEDALE Festival will introduce its 2016 season to audiences in York with a Spring Double Concert in the city’s two great medieval halls, the Merchant Adventures’ Hall and the Merchant Taylors’ Hall, on May 25 from 7pm.

Two contrasting short concerts are to be performed twice, with the audience changing places either side of the interval, necessitating a seven to ten-minute walk between the Fossgate and Aldwark buildings.

In the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, The Heath Quartet will perform Tchaikovsky’s First String Quartet, and in contrast, the Merchant Taylors’ Hall will play host to a varied recital from harpist Catrin Finch in the hall's 600th anniversary year.

Catrin's programme will comprise J S Bach's Prelude from Violin Partita No. 3; Claude Debussy's The Girl With The Flaxen Hair; Nino Rota's Sarabanda and Toccata; Paul Patterson's Bugs! Mosquito Massacre and Félix Godefroid's Carnaval de Venise.

Tickets cost £30 on 01751 475777 or by emailing box.office@ryedalefestival.com. Ryedale Festival will run from July 15 to 31; for more details, visit ryedalefestival.com
