SAM Bailey, the former prison officer now starring as prison Matron "Mama" Morton in the musical Chicago, will play York Barbican next spring on her Sing My Heart Out tour.

The gold-selling 2013 X Factor winner will be undertaking her first solo travels since early 2015, when she promoted her chart-topping 2014 album The Power Of Love.

The Sing My Heart Out dates, including York on March 25,  will coincide with the 38-year-old Bexley singer's upcoming album of the same name. Bailey has travelled to Los Angeles to record tracks with composer Steve Dorff and teamed with former A1 band member and singer/songwriter Ben Adams too. They have worked together on many of the songs, not least the lead single, Sing My Heart Out.

Bailey is running a competition to give talented acts from each location the chance to be her support act for a night. Entrants must send in videos for Bailey to review, from which she will choose each winner to perform in front of thousands.

The reason behind this competition lies with Bailey being adamant she will never forget her humble roots. She empathises with struggling artists looking for their big break and believes the competition will help to support them on their journey, just as The X Factor gave her the big push she needed. Now is her time to do likewise, she says. For information on how to enter the competition, visit sam-bailey.com/news/your-chance-join-sam-stage Tickets for Bailey's 7.30pm show are on sale at yorkbarbican.co.uk or on 0844 854 2757.
