THE Red Hot Chilli Pipers are playing Fibbers in York on April 30. Yes, you read that correctly; they are The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, the piping hot sound of bagpipe players.

The Pipers have progressed from a cameo appearance at T in the Park in 2004 with The Darkness to opening the main stage in their own right in 2014, as they have become the most famous bagpipe band on the planet.

They promise bagpipes with attitude, drums with a Scottish accent and a show that carries its own health warning with their groundbreaking fusion of traditional Scottish music and rock and pop anthems, a combination that they like to call bagrock.

The Pipers have gathered a group of musicians from Scotland and further afield, many holding world-championship titles, recording their most ambitious project to date for a live CD and DVD in November 2014, Live At The Lake. Bringing 16 musicians and dancers across the Atlantic to perform at Milwaukee Irish Fest, the American spiritual home of the band, they performed on the shores of Lake Michigan.

On the set list were Insomnia, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Thunderstruck, Everybody Dance Now, Amazing Grace, Fix You, Chasing Cars, Wake Me Up , Don’t Stop Believin’ and We Will Rock You.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers received a gold disc for 100,000 British sales of their first album, Bagrock To The Masses, achieved triple platinum status for the album and DVD Blast Live and have twice been awarded the title of Best Live Act in Scotland.

They have notched up more than 2.5 million hits on YouTube for their cover of Avici’s Wake Me Up, played sold-out gigs in the US, China, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and France, and have performed at international events such as the BBC Proms in Hyde Park, T in the Park, Wacken Open Air, the Rugby World Cup and the Bahrain Grand Prix.

They have played to the Queen, showbiz stars Ewan McGregor, Paul McCartney and Samuel L Jackson and sporting greats Sir Alex Ferguson and Gary Player, plus the Scotland rugby union team.

Former winners of the BBC primetime talent show When Will I Be Famous?, hosted by Graham Norton, they are now heading to Fibbers for their York debut.
