BLACK Dyke Band's Sunday afternoon concert at Pocklington Arts Centre on April 3 is well on its way to a sell-out.

Originally known as the John Foster & Son Black Dyke Mills Band when formed in 1855, the West Yorkshire brass band has a rich musical history stretching back 160 years.

Black Dyke was the first band to achieve the "Grand Slam" in 1985 by winning the Yorkshire regional, European, British Open and National Championship contests. In 2014, the band won the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for a record 23rd time and the British Open Championship for the 30th time, another record.

Black Dyke will be making its first ever appearance in Pocklington. presenting well-known classical pieces, military marches and film music in a 3pm programme.

"We're delighted to have secured a booking with one of the most sought-after brass bands in the country," says Janet Farmer, the arts centre's manager. "This concert follows on from Brighouse & Rastrick's sold-out performance here in 2015 and is proving equally popular. Advance booking is advised as tickets are close to selling out."
