DONCASTER singer-songwriter John McCullagh and his new band The Escorts will perform at The Spread Eagle, in Walmgate, York, tomorrow night.

"I'm really looking forward to returning to York; it's one of our favourite places to play," says the teenage South Yorkshire troubadour. "Landlord Nick Cope at The Spread Eagle always goes the extra mile for his bands. We also have one or two new songs to throw into the mix, so come down, say 'Hi' and see you there."

After a tour of intimate British venues for the May release of his New Born Cry album on 359 Records, plus festival shows at Blackthorn Music Festival, Kendal Calling, Vicars Picnic and Party in The Pine, John McCullagh & The Escorts are on an autumn tour of York, Banbury, Wolverhampton and Scottish shows in Glasgow and Aberdeen, finishing at the Darlington Green Room on October 31.York Press:

"Glad the album's finally out there so people can hear it," says John. "I've loved the dates we've played this year and to play Doncaster was a real highlight for me, so I'm looking forward to keep promoting the album into the autumn."

McCullagh and The Escorts recorded New Born Cry at John Power's Liverpool studio with The La's and Cast musician himself on production duties, and the album highlights include a remixed version of Box Of Tricks and the singles Towerland Lullaby and She’s Calling Me.

Influenced by Donovan, Marc Bolan, Paul Weller and Johnny Cash, McCullagh has played guitar and written songs since he was 12, adding a mastery of the harmonica to his skills. At only 15, he became one of the first signings to music industry legend Alan McGee’s label, 359 Music.
