THE latest offering from Real Estate's Matt Mondanile is a bright and breezy mix of airy tracks which are the perfect soundtrack to a summer.

While occasionally theatrical, particularly on the opening chords of The Laughing Woman, the down-homeness of the lyrics - which pick up on bad knees, working hours and dancing in front of a mirror - prevent it from being over the top, while it's easy to hear opening track The Disney Afternoon as part of a Jon Brian soundtrack to a P.T. Anderson film.

On the title track especially, even as it arrives almost halfway into the album, there's a springy twang to the guitars and what sounds like an accordion over the verses which evoke huge sunny vistas and carefree open-top car trips on roads next to cornfields and rolling hills - made even more impressive considering Mondanile's home surroundings of New Jersey.

Bright is really the operative word here, with the keyboards and guitars given the extra chime of an upbeat vibrato on most of the tracks, and a generally positive sound that means regardless of the lyrics, the album sounds like a happy collection.
