LULU is to perform in York for the first time since her Greatest Hits Tour in March 2004.

The Scottish singer-songwriter returns to York Barbican as part of her first solo tour in a decade, her 2015 itinerary coinciding with the release of Making Life Rhyme.

The album not only marks her re-signing to Decca Records, the label that gave Lulu her debut with Shout in 1964, but also is her first collection of songs composed entirely by the 66-year-old Glaswegian and comes ten years since her last studio set, 2005’s A Little Soul In Your Heart.

“I’m really proud of this record,” said Lulu of her new London recordings.

“I’ve made a lot of records over the years but this one comes at a time in my life when I’m re-evaluating everything. Life changes, people change, and this album sums up what I see as my place in the world at this time. For that reason, it’s especially gratifying to me that the album will appear on Decca, my first ever label.”

Lulu, who performed at the Closing Ceremony of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, is revelling in a “renewed sense of purpose”.

“I just felt a compulsion to make this new record and, because of that, the songs just poured out,” she said. “My family always said I came into this world singing, and I’d be happy to go out of this world singing – but I have a lot more to say before that happens.”
