SOUTH African blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter Dan Patlansky will play Fibbers in York next Thursday as one of six dates on his spring tour to promote the British release of his album Dear Silence Thieves.

Approved personally by Bruce Springsteen to open The Boss’s Johannesburg show in February last year, Patlansky could be the first contemporary guitarist from his country to break out on a global scale. Springsteen was among a crowd of musicians that watched from stage side, including Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, as Patlansky played to his biggest ever audience: 64,000 people.

Patlansky has just been confirmed as the special guest on Joe Satriani’s British tour in November, but first come this month’s shows, kicking off with his UK album launch at the Borderline, London, on Monday, followed by Sheffield, York, Portsmouth, Bristol and Poole.

Dear Silence Thieves has made an impact elsewhere ahead of its British release, being voted number one in the American Blues Rock Review’s poll of the Top 20 Blues Rock Albums of 2014, beating The Black Keys, Paul Rodgers, Joanne Shaw Taylor and Joe Bonamassa to the top spot.

Patlansky’s first album, Standing At The Station, was issued in 2001 and then came his major label for Blue Note with 2004’s True Blues; Real in 2006; Move My Soul in 2009; 20 Stones in 2012; and the unplugged Wooden Thoughts in 2013.

Dear Silence Thieves first emerged in his homeland last May.

“I’m the chef and my songs are recipes music fans can most certainly try at home,” says Patlansky. Tickets for his York gig are on sale online at fibbers.co.uk or on the door from 7.30pm. Meanwhile you can check out the video for Patlansky’s latest single, Backbite, on YouTube.
