SCOTTISH rock band The Xcerts play The Duchess in York on Monday in advance of the April 20 release of their new EP I Don't Care.

The Aberdeen trio accompany this track off last November's album, There Is Only You, with an exclusive new B-side, Wish, and three numbers recorded live at Glasgow’s Oran Mor last December 2014.

Frontman Murray McLeod recalls the creation of I Don't Care. "When we were demoing There Is Only You, I Don't Care went through countless changes lyrically. It was a pretty frustrating time for me personally as I wanted the chorus to be as big and as simple as possible but i just couldn't find the finish line," he says.

"A record company also told us it was a hit single but the lyrics wouldn't relate to anyone. Out of pure frustration, I wrote the line 'I don't care no more, if you've got something to say then just say it', and I had finally found the chorus.

"The overall meaning of the song is about reaching breaking point with someone who's clearly upset about something you've done or said, yet refuses to express why. Bottling things up and exploding is not a good way to live."

McLeod's band made the video for I Don't Care in Nottingham with their friends Holomax. "We're usually pretty useless when cameras are pointed in our direction but we had a total blast making this video," he says.

"We had a six-hour window to shoot the video in and unbelievably we only ran half an hour behind schedule. I'm going to blame our tour manager for surprising us with a pizza party mid shoot. Good guy."

The Xcerts will be announcing British festival appearances in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, their spring tour also includes Hull Fruit on Tuesday.
