MARIANA Sadovska is known as “the Ukrainian Bjork” in her home country.
Born in Lviv and trained as a classical pianist, Mariana now crosses all borders, transforming archaic midsummer night invocations, wedding songs and migrant chants from remote Ukrainian villages into contemporary sounds in her innovative, avant-garde compositions.
She will be joined at her NCEM concert by German percussionist and electronica specialist Christian Thomé to sing tales of love and death, despair and hope, in search of freedom and identity.
Aside from her concert performances, Mariana has been working on a commission for the Kronos Quartet, as well as being in demand as a voice teacher for Harvard University and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Thursday’s concert forms part of this season’s Making Tracks programme at the NCEM, where tickets for three specified concerts can be bought for the price of two. Box office: 01904 658338 or at ncem.co.uk
