COLIN Gold fronts Fury’s Tornados in Halfway To Paradise, a tribute to the British pop icon Billy Fury.

In 1996, Gold appeared on national television singing Halfway To Paradise and duly linked up with Fury’s Tornados to perform The Billy Fury Experience show, whose first performance came on February 14, 1997.

Fury’s Tornados were the late Fury’s longest-serving band, backing him throughout the 1970s. After Fury stopped touring through ill health, the band members went their separate ways, convinced that “no one could ever come close to sounding or looking like our old friend, colleague and boss”. Enter Colin Gold into their world and Fury’s songs came alive again.

“Billy Fury was unique, devastatingly handsome,” say Fury’s Tornados. “Girls went wild for him. Guys wanted to be him. We were lucky, very lucky to have been a part of his history. Each night that we perform his songs again we feel privileged to do so.”

Tickets for the 7.30pm show are on sale at £22 on 0844 871 3024 or at atgtickets.com/york
