TEXAN trio Purple bring sunflower power to Fibbers in York tonight on their return to British shores for a run of March shows.

After cementing their live reputation on their inaugural visit late last year, the Beaumont band now follow a series of European dates with their first shows of 2015 over here in support of forthcoming single DMT.

Lifted from last year’s debut long player, 409, live favourite DMT features vocalist/drummer Hanna Brewer at full throttle, blitzing her way through six minutes of a riotous wig-out, aided and abetted by her fellow thrill seekers, bassist Joe Prankster and guitarist Taylor Busby.

The single will be available digitally via the usual outlets through Play It Again Sam. Hear it tonight when Purple play Fibbers.

“And could they just be the best boy/girl/boy band in the world, right now?” asks Fibbers boss Tim Hornsby. “Oil town Beaumont, Texas has lots of modern day JR Ewings, and notable alumni like slap-bass original Larry Graham, bluesman Blind Willie Johnson, ill-fated Fifties singer The Big Bopper and now party rockers Purple.”

Purple are the three sardonic outsider school kids who grew up to become the coolest gang in town, suggests Tim.

“For fans of Sonic Youth, Royal Trux and The Strokes – Purple play pop music. Messy, dirty, raucous, grit-spitting, tequila-glugging pop music,” he says. “They do not apologise for this. In fact, there’s a big streak of indie-punk snarl running up their backbones and coursing through their veins as well. Such exciting music and such an exciting band, get on this before it goes ballistic.”

Doors open at 7.30pm; support tonight comes from Junk and Grolar Bear.
