LANDLORDS and housing workers will gather in York next week to talk about how to tackle tenancy fraud.
The city is to host Yorkshire’s first tenancy fraud conference on Tuesday, March 10 with 32 social landlords.
The conference will consider a broad range of frauds like illegal subletting, false succession claims, tenancy abandonment, Right to Buy fraud, and fraudulent applications for housing, which together cost local councils an estimated £1.7 billion a year.
Max Thomas, chief executive of VeritauLtd – which is putting on the conference along with City of York Council – said: “We are proud of our track record at combating housing fraud. Every property we can help return to City of York Council represents a saving to the city. This conference will provide a forum to allow us to share our successes and learn from colleagues so that we can further improve our service.”
