SPECTRUM Chamber Choir joins forces with its own Sinfonia to perform Handel's most celebrated oratorio, Messiah, under founder director Ben Horden on Saturday at St Wilfrid’s RC Church, Duncombe Place, York.
"I am delighted to be leading this performance of Handel's Messiah – a masterpiece of the High Baroque – with such a dynamic ensemble of talented musicians and singers and in such a fantastic venue. It promises to be a performance not to be missed," says Ben.
"The oratorio portrays Jesus Christ as 'Messiah', from the prophecies of Isaiah through Incarnation, Passion, Resurrection and on to his ultimate glory-seat in Heaven."
Spectrum was formed by Ben with the aim of promoting "focused music making of the highest standards and creating and encouraging opportunities for aspiring young musicians".
"Although only just approaching its fifth birthday, the choir has already performed a wide repertoire of music spanning over 500 years, from Renaissance polyphony and masters of the High Baroque to choral music of the present day," saysBen.
"We made our debut in York Minster in January 2012 and we continue a successful programme of concerts and events, with our annual performance of Handel's Messiah always being a memorable highlight."
