BRIGHOUSE singer-songwriter Roger Davies is to promote his fifth studio album, Local Radio, with a series of northern concerts in February and March.

The West Yorkshire troubadour will be performing at All Saints Church Hall in Upper Poppleton, York, on Saturday, for Poppleton Live, followed by Harrogate Theatre on March 14 and his fourth booking at Black Swan Folk Club, Black Swan Inn, York, which is on March 19.

Davies has composed such songs as Huddersfield Town, Brighouse On Saturday Night, Peter Brook’s Paintings, The Ghost Of Lily Fogg and The Beerbelly Blues and his new album will be on sale at Saturday’s Poppleton gig, before its release on March 9.

His song 1,000 Tears was used as the soundtrack to the Kirklees Road Safety Partnership’s Anti-Drink Driving Campaign during this winter’s Christmas and New Year period, while his composition Wear Your Poppy With Pride was released as a charity single last November, raising hundreds of pounds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Davies has been called “a bit like the Jimmy Webb of West Yorkshire” by Barnsley bard Ian McMillan and as “a modern-day musical LS Lowry” on BBC Radio 3 and his deceptively simple songs resonate with Yorkshire roots but speak to universal themes of home, love, art and everyday life.

Tickets for Saturday’s 8pm concert are on sale on 07703 792861 or by emailing jmwatterson@aol.com; Harrogate’s 7.30pm show, 01423 502116 or harrogatetheatre.co.uk; Black Swan’s 8pm show, wegottickets.com or on the door.
