HELMSLEY’S One Night Only have been back on the road this month to promote their upcoming third album, concluding with a last-date party gig in their home town tonight.
Now in their 12th year, the North Yorkshire band are introducing a new sound, as previewed on two singles, 2014’s Get Around To It and this year’s Plasticine. New material from the as-yet-untitled but completed new album will be combined with fan favourites from the first two albums, 2008’s gold-selling Started A Fire and 2010’s One Night Only.
The market-town band formed in 2003, initially playing covers and originals with a line-up of Mark Hayton, Daniel Parkin, Sam Ford and lead guitarist and vocalist Kai Smith, who made way for George Craig, a precocious singer and guitarist, aged only 13 when he led the line-up for the first time that December.
Debut single You And Me emerged in late 2007; Just For Tonight soared up the charts in early 2008 and debut album Started A Fire went Top Ten the next month. Now they are looking to re-start that fire with their new album, after last year’s departure of Mark Hayton from a line-up that has become a four-piece of George and James Craig, Jack Sails and Daniel Parkin. Watch this space for further developments.
• One Night Only, Helmsley Arts Centre, tonight, 7.30pm. Tickets for One Night Only’s one night only in Helmsley are on sale on 01439 771700 or at helmsleyarts.co.uk
