MORRISSEY will play Leeds First Direct Arena on March 20, one of half a dozen shows on his first full British tour since 2011.

The early spring travels follow Morrissey’s sold-out return to British soil at the O2 in London last November in the wake of the July release of his 12th Top Ten album, World Peace Is None Of Your Business.

A revival of prime form after the turgid dirges of 2009’s Years Of Refusal were met with universal refusal, the record was produced in France by Joe Chiccarelli and peaked at number two in the British charts.

Accompanied by new recruit Gustavo Manzur on flamenco guitar, Morrissey mused across 12 tracks on such themes as Istanbul, KFC, China, social injustice, bullfighting, the environment, children, kissing and mortality, in the wake of his scrape with serious illness.

In October 2013, Penguin Classic published his autobiography, under the plain title of Autobiography, and it went on to sell 110,000 copies in its first week and spend five weeks at number one.

Tickets for Morrissey’s only Yorkshire date go on sale on Friday at 10am on 0844 248 1585, at firstdirectarena.com or in person from the arena ticket office.
