THE British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will present a Viennese Strauss Christmas Gala at York Barbican on Monday night.
Written and presented by Malcolm McKee, who has played Graham Ryder in BBC Radio 4's The Archers since 1996, this festive concert will feature Viennese composer Johann Strauss's waltzes, songs and tunes, such as The Blue Danube, Vienna Blood, The Champagne Polka, Roses From The South and Radetsky March.
These will be complemented by works by fellow Viennese composers Lehar, Kalman, Romberg and Stolz, including numbers from The White Horse Inn, The New Moon, The Student Prince, Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow and The Gypsy Baron.
A winter flurry of traditional Christmas music will be played too, including Silent Night, O Holy Night, O Christmas Tree and The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire), topped off by carol singing for the audience.
Brought to York by Much Loved Productions, the 7.30pm concert will feature soprano soloist Marilyn Hill Smith, baritone Jeremy Peaker, fromOpera North, and tenor Andrew Forbes Lane.
