LEEDS trio Eyeshutight showcase their third album, Resonance, at the Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate, York, on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Led by bassist and composer Paul Baxter, Eyeshutight – pronounced and originally called Eyes Shut Tight – the band were formed in 2010 and also feature pianist Johnny Tomlinson and drummer Kristoffer Wright. Baxter lived in York for six years and continues to be a double bass tutor at the University of York.

Eyeshutight have drawn inspiration from bands such as e.s.t., The Bad Plus, Avishai Cohen Trio and Keith Jarrett's great trio from the 1970s, but have carved their own path too by creating a new, exciting blend of melodic compositions and fiery, expansive improvisation.

The title track is the perfect introduction to the band’s world: a whistle stop tour of Baxter’s musical influences, starting with a doctored version of a Rage Against The Machine riff, leading into a Latin/Cuban-tinged melody. This then develops into dense jazz harmony that precedes a complex rhythmic ending.

Tickets will be on sale on the door at £10. Resonance is available on Hungry Bear Records.
