PETE Wylie, the ever articulate, sharp and wise leader of The Mighty Wah!, will be Singing Songs And Telling Tales at Fibbers, Toft Green, York, on Saturday.

Billed as "part time rock star, full time legend", singer, songwriter and composer Wylie was once part of the lippy Liverpool triumvirate The Crucial Three with Echo And The Bunnymen's Ian McCulloch and Teardrop Explodes' Julian Cope.

He went on to lead Wah! in various incarnations, recording such Mersey classics as The Story Of The Blues, Come Back, Sinful, 7 Minutes To Midnight and the Liverpool FC anthem Heart As Big As Liverpool, and has written scores for Hurricane Films, Alex Cox and BBC Radio 4 too.

"And now Pete Wylie, raconteur and, let’s be fair, general all-round genius and good guy, is back on the road for a short series of dates and his first York show since Fibbers in January 2002," says Fibbers promoter Tim Hornsby.

Doors open at 7.30pm; Wylie will be supported by Joe Solo and Mark Wynn; tickets cost £12.50 at fibbers.co.uk
