AFTER releasing their Sirens EP, celebrated pop-funk band Level 42 are touring once more.
Since the return of the Eighties and early-Nineties band in 2001, under the leadership of founding member and legendary bass player Mark King, the group have been going from strength to strength with new albums and festival performances.
Solo guitarist Will Stapleton started the night off well, combining a pleasing, powerful voice with simple, rhythmic melodies ranging from the slow and sorrowful to lively and loud, demonstrating fantastic skill.
Level 42 themselves entered to thunderous applause, with King's well-known slap-bass guitar leading a percussive, raucous blend of brass, drums and keyboard that had audience members clapping and boogieing along right from the beginning. From there, things settled into a slower pace, carried forward by the fantastic feel-good funk and the wonderful atmosphere it created.
However, the true highlight of the night was the encore, where the band delivered a bombastic selection of their best loved hits that had people coming down from their seats on the balconies to dance before the stage.
Delivering an truly electric mix of high energy music and excellent spectacle, Level 42 are still going strong.
