IRISH rock guitarist Bernie Tormé will make an in-store appearance at MOR Music, in Franklins, Yard, Fossgate, York, this afternoon ahead of his evening show at Fibbers, Toft Green.

Dublin-born Tormé, guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, Dee Snider and Gillan, and leader of Electric Gypsies and Torme, will play an unplugged acoustic set on the MOR stage, as well as meeting fans and signing autographs at the 2pm to 3pm event. Admission is free.

Tormé, psychedelic blues rock guitar player and glam punk sleaze rock frontman is known for many things, not least for stepping in and saving the day for Ozzy Osbourne in the aftermath of guitar legend Randy Rhoad's death in an air crash only days earlier.

Tormé enjoyed hit records, world tours and international fame as Ian Gillan's axe-man in Gillan; formed Desperado with Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider and former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr; and fronted the aforementioned Electric Gypsies and Torme.

The Fender Stratocaster-playing Dubliner learned his trade from local heroes such as Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore and Eric Bell before moving to London in 1974, where he initially played with heavy pub rockers Scrapyard, and then formed the Bernie Tormé Band in 1976, going on to tour with Bob Geldof's Boomtown Rats and Billy Idol's Generation X.

In early 1979, Tormé joined ex-Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan's band Gillan and he played on four Top Ten albums and such hit singles as New Orleans and Trouble. He joined Ozzy Osbourne for Ozzy's The Diary Of A Madman tour in the United States, where Madison Square Garden, New York, was among the gigs they played.

Tonight, York, not New York, will be the location for his latest concert. Doors open at Fibbers at 7.30pm.
