PLEASE Please You promoter Joe Coates begins his autumn season of gigs in York with Conquering Animal Sound, U.V. and Mayshe Mayshe at The Basement, City Screen, on Monday at 8pm.

Conquering Animal Sound last toured Britain when opening for Múm in November 2013 and on their return they will be promoting their new EP, released this month on Chemikal Underground.

"It's been a little too long since we've hosted this wonderfully inventive Scottish electronic duo, and this time we have the pleasure of Manchester pair U.V. in support too," says Joe.

"Straddling the divide between pop and the avant-garde ought to render Conquering Animal Sound in a position of eternal compromise, taming their experimental impulses in the pursuit of pop truth, but Anneke Kampman and James Scott have little truck with contemporary music orthodoxy, from the process of composition and manufacture through to the multiple meanings that underpin their music."

Last year, the duo released their second album, On Floating Bodies, a record made with machines and digital technology that was fearless, futuristic and frosted, creating an alien landscape bookended by the sound of pulses, sea shells and a miniature tool-set dropping to the floor on the track Ultimate Heat Death Of The Universe.

Tickets cost £5 in advance on 0871 902 5726 or at thebasementyork.co.uk or £7 on the door.
