AMERICAN music mogul David Gest is staging his second soul revue of 2014 in his adopted home city of York this weekend.

On the Gest list will be Russell Thompkins Jr & The New Stylistics; The Temptations Review starring Dennis Edwards; Sheila Ferguson, from The Three Degrees; Deniece Williams; Billy Paul; Kim Weston and Brenda Holloway. Between them these American soul acts have sold more than 100 million records.

The Temptations Review headlined the sold-out first Soul Legends night at York Barbican in February , when Sheila Ferguson was on the bill too, along with Candi Staton, Gwen Dickey, Eddie Holman, CeCe Peniston, Little Anthony and Jody Watley.

Gest, who took the show to 30 cities, hinted to his York audience that there would be a sequel and true to his word, here it is. Edwards was in magnificent, thunderous voice at 71 in "York city", as he endearingly called it, and now returns, while Gest will be the master of ceremonies, as he was in February, when he regaled his home audience with stories of his love of York restaurants, hog roasts and sweet shops, as well as his friendship since childhood days with Michael Jackson.

Tickets can be booked on 0844 854 2757, at yorkbarbican.co.uk or in person from the York Barbican box office today and tomorrow, 10am to 2pm.
