EXAMPLE, the Fulham singer, songwriter, producer, occasional rapper and all-round king of the club banger, will appear at York Barbican this autumn.

The 32-year-old Londoner, whose real name is Elliot John Gleave, will play 26 cities and towns in October and November in support of his October 5 single, 10 Million People, the latest to be lifted from his Top ten album Live Life Living.

"10 Million People was written after watching a documentary on early Nineties' rave culture," says Example. "I found this video online where they were interviewing people at an illegal rave. The guy with the microphone said to one of the revellers "surely this whole rave thing is just a fad?". And the raver replied, 'well, ten million people can't be wrong'. I wrote and produced the track in a day with Fraser T Smith. It's my favourite song on the album and feels timeless for me. Right at the last minute I went back in and added a rap at the start just like I did on last singleOne More Day."

Example is known for turning his live sets into colossal party scenes, so York Barbican should be a sight to behold on October 23, as should Leeds O2 Academy, his second Yorkshire gig two nights later, and Hull City Hall on November 23.

"I haven't covered the UK properly for such a long time," he says. "The last two arena tours were superb but we missed some corners of the UK and a lot of people can't travel hours to see a gig, especially on a weekday.

"It’s a marathon tour, even for me, but I've carefully chosen all the venues myself, some of which I've played in loads of time and others which I've never been to. Expect all the hits from the last three albums plus all the bangers and singles off album number five in a spectacular 90-minute show."

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am at gigsandtours.com and ticketmaster.co.uk. York tickets also will be available on 0844 854 2757 or at yorkbarbican.co.uk
