SALTBURN artist and musician Andy Broderick will host an evening of music and conversation at the Inspired by… Gallery at The Moors National Park Centre, Danby, on September 6.

Andy’s watercolours of the animals and birds of the North York Moors National Park can be seen alongside the work of two sculptors, Emma Stothard, from Whitby, and Stef Ottevanger, from the Yorkshire Dales, as part of the gallery's Spirited Wildlife exhibition until September 16.

From 7pm, Andy will discuss his art work and his interest in wildlife, as well as performing some of his favourite music on guitar, accompanied by violinist Ray Legg.

“Music was always a presence in my life: I remember when I was young watching my uncle’s family band rehearse at my granny’s house in Ireland," says Andy. "At 20, I moved to England to study fine art at university and began learning to play guitar and sing to help make ends meet by busking.

"I started writing my own songs about five years ago after becoming interested in learning songs from the Irish Gaelic tradition, trying to interpret them with a sense of inventiveness and a creative approach, and to deliver them with an honesty, intensity and true feeling.”

Ray Legg will set his violin accompaniment to Andy’s traditional Irish melodies and idiosyncratic style of song writing. Ray's musical education began with classical violin and he went on to play in myriad bands through the 1960s and 1970s, such as his family bluegrass band, Huckleberry Hollow, who performed on the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival.

Tickets for An Evening With Andy Broderick cost £5, including a glass of wine, on 01439 772738 and advance booking is recommended. Spirited Wildlife is open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm in August and 10am to 5pm in September; entry is free.
