YORK'S Little Festival of Live Music: Unplugged will play host to ten hours of family-friendly music at the Black Swan Inn, Peasholme Green, on September 27 and 28.

Held to mark the Little Festival of Live Music's first birthday, Unplugged will follow in the footsteps of this community festival's previous events by showcasing the region's musical talent in a relaxed acoustic setting, while raising money from ticket sales for a good cause. This year's recipients will be the Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS).

Ellen Cole, the festival director and organiser, says: “IDAS was the charity we raised funds for during our first event, and one year on, we want to celebrate the charity who helped us kick start the festival at its beginning. It's been a brilliant year for us, as we've seen our following grow and grow.

"We've had over 200 acts apply for Unplugged, so whittling them down to just ten wasn’t the easiest of jobs, but it did allow us to discover more talented musicians who we'll be definitely working with in the future. Our September line-up boasts established local musicians, as well as introducing the work of new and up-and-coming performers.”

Unplugged's top ten includes country-folk quartet Gilded Thieves; hillbilly Americana combo King Courgette; soul-infused melodic folk singer Zak Ford; University of York English Literature and Philosophy graduate cum poetic songwriter Sam Griffiths and regular York busker Rachel Croft.

On the list too are purveyors of "acousticy, souly, jazzy, bluesy, poppy songs" According To Eve; singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leo James Conroy; blues-rock six piece These And The Other Guy; Boss Caine, with their sad songs for happy people; and and veteran acoustic folkie David Ward Maclean, whose songs are "icebergs with penguins on them".

Doors open at 4.45pm for each day's 5pm to 10pm bill. Admission is £4 and tickets can be bought in advance by contacting Ellen on yorkslivemusicfestival@gmail.com

York’s Little Festival of Live Music was created with only three weeks’ notice for the 2013 York Food and Drink Festival. In response to its initial success, the festival doubled its slots to six nights at this summer’s York Food and Drink Festival as one of three events planned for 2014. "We hope to increase the number to four during 2015," says Ellen.
