STEVE Harley, the original Cockney Rebel, tours the world with A Closer Look – An Acoustic Set, a show that combines musical intimacy with improvisation.
He will be joined for his brace of Pocklington shows in October by long-standing Cockney Rebel band-mate Barry Wickens, on violin and guitar, and James Lascelles on piano and percussion.
The set will be built around tracks from all 13 of Harley's albums, taking in such favourites as Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me), Mr Soft, Judy Teen, Mr Raffles and Sebastian alongside selections from his past two works, Quality Of Mercy and Stranger ComesTo Town.
“Playing the songs in an acoustic format gives me time and space to enjoy every second," says Harley. "And we improvise, which is always a big excitement for any musician. We can loosen off the arrangements and really explore. It gets pretty exciting during the acoustic sets.”
Steve Harley, A Closer Look – An Acoustic Set, Pocklington Arts Centre, October 8 and 9, 8pm. Tickets go on sale this week on 01759 301547 or at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
