KING Creosote backs up the July 21 release of his new soundtrack album, From Scotland With Love, with an autumn tour that visits the Howard Assembly Room at Leeds Grand Theatre on Saturday, October 11.

The album was created by King Creosote, alias Scottish folk singer and songwriter Kenny Anderson, in collaboration with director Virginia Heath and producer Grant Keir as an audio-accompaniment to a poetic documentary film that marks this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Heath’s film uses archive footage but no narration or interviews as it weaves together themes of love and loss, war, resistance, emigration, work and play and is driven as much by Anderson’s music as it is by the images.

For the first time, Anderson found himself able to write from other people’s perspectives, such as the “fisher lassies” who inspired the moving Cargill, one of 11 King Creosote tracks produced by guitarist David McAulay in Chem19 Studios in Glasgow. Among the others are Miserable Strangers, the single For One Night Only and Pauper’s Dough.

Anderson was joined on the recordings by band members Derek O’Neill, keyboards, Andy Robinson, drums, Pete Mcleod, bass, and Kevin Brolly, clarinet), plus a string section arranged by cellist Pete Harvey and a choir.

Released by Domino, From Scotland With Love is King Creosote’s first album since Diamond Mine, his Mercury-nominated collaboration with Jon Hopkins in 2011. An extended version, encompassing all the film’s music, will be available on heavyweight vinyl with eight bonus tracks: Favourite Girl, Melt, Marie Celeste, Carry On Dancing, Hair Of The Dawn, Return Ticket, 678 and Bringing In The Bales.
