MICAH P. Hinson, the idiosyncratic Americana singer and songwriter, plays his skewed, weary songs of angst, fate and love in Leeds this evening in the only Yorkshire show on his nine-date tour.

Hinson is touring in support of his March studio album, Micah P. Hinson And The Nothing, a record that is as beautiful as it is bittersweet.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, into a strict Christian fundamentalist household, Hinson began to experiment with music on moving to Abilene, Texas in his teens and teamed up in 2003 with Texas collective The Earlies, who provided a lush backdrop for his winsome tales of love, loss and regret.

Micah P. Hinson And The Nothing is his sixth album and his first for French label Talitres. The songs were written before a bad car accident while touring Spain in Summer 2011.

The future use of his arms hung in the balance, whereupon Hinson’s demos took on a new light as he sent them around the world to the likes of The Twilight Sad and his Texan side-kick, T. Nicholas Phelps.

With their help, he began to create a record without the use of his arms, although subsequently he has regained full mobility.

Eventually, he took up an invitation to record the album at Moon River Studio, Santander, Spain, with engineer Fernanda ‘Mac’ Macava and The Aquattro String Quartet.

“A grand amount of time and a grand amount of love was put into every song,” says Hinson. That’s why Micah P Hinson And The Nothing adds up to something special.
