SQUEEZE songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook will take to the road as a duo for the first time in 20 years on The At Odds Couple tour this autumn.

Among the 11 dates is the only Yorkshire show, at the Grand Opera House in York on November 17, for which tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10am on 0844 871 3024 and 0844 811 0051 or at atgtickets.com/york or gigsandtours.com

The At Odds Couple tour will see Difford and Tilbrook “present their songs and story in a unique way as they celebrate their enduring music and partnership” that gave them their first hit with Take Me I’m Yours in April 1978.

Difford’s lyrics and Tilbrook’s music have prevailed through turbulent times over the past four decades, from the ever-changing musical landscape to their own internal re-shuffles and an acrimonious break-up. In November’s gigs, they will reflect on their careers, both in Squeeze and as solo artists, giving an insight into what makes them tick as song-writing partners.

“There’s lots of history and myth to our relationship,” says Chris. “There have been times when we’ve not gotten on and not communicated with each other but we’re now at a place where we have a lot of respect for each other. No relationship is plain sailing, whether it be personal or work, but over the years we’ve come to understand our differences and similarities and learnt to co-exist alongside each other.”

Glenn describes the last few years as having been “really interesting”. “We’ve talked more than ever and reflected on our relationship and it’s brought us to this point,” he says.

Squeeze devotees will be intrigued that in addition to performing such hits as Up The Junction and Cool For Cats, Difford and Tilbrook will be dusting down songs written together in Squeeze’s infancy but never recorded. “There are a few corkers in there,” they promise.

Expect tracks from their solo careers too, and the London duo have been working on new Squeeze material – set for release in 2015 - that will no doubt creep into the set list.

Squeeze re-formed in 2007, since when their contribution to music has been noted with the site of their first gig being awarded a PRS For Music Heritage Plaque in 2010, to go with their Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, Nordoff-Robbins Icon Award and Mojo Magazine Icon Award.

Earlier this year, Tilbrook released his third solo album, Happy Ending, having trailed a selection of new songs at his Pocktoberfest performance at The Old Station, Pocklington, last October.
