TICKETS go on sale on Tuesday at 10am for folk veteran Richard Thompson's return to the Grand Opera House, York, on Thursday, August 28.
Guitarist, songwriter, social commentator and holder of a Lifetime Achievement Award in Songwriting from the BBC, Thompson last played there in January 2011.
Since then, one of Rolling Stone magazine's Top 20 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time has released the album Electric, on the Proper Records label in February 2013, when Thompson claimed he had just invented "folk-funk".
"That sounds like a Thompson tease, the sort of playfulness that belies the sometimes gloomy songs," wrote The Press's reviewer, Julian Cole, who described the record as a "warming burst of the gruff stuff".
"It is uplifting to hear him rock things up with a band, especially on an album blissfully free of production clutter, courtesy of Buddy Miller, which is not always the case with this king Richard," he added.
