GOLDFRAPP’S support act at York Barbican on April 5 will be We Were Evergreen, whose debut album, Towards, will be released through Mi7/Island Records on May 5.

Aside from gigging, Michael Liot, Fabienne Débarre and William Serfass spent most of 2013 holed up writing and recording the record with Alt-J producer Charlie Andrew in Brixton.

Trailered by this month’s single, Daughters, the album is billed as “an exciting amalgamation of beats and rhythms from across the world, combining warm vocals and electronic-pop melodies in universal modern tales that are both happy and dark, while predominantly feeding on the carefree fun of just being young”.

“We have evolved in the process of making this first album, which is why it is called Towards,” say the trio. “It’s about going somewhere, anywhere, even if the direction doesn’t make sense. It’s about movement versus stillness, body versus mind, personal mythology versus collective memory.”

As well as opening for Goldfrapp, We Were Evergreen will play the Live At Leeds Festival on May 3 and Fibbers in York on May 7 on their first headline tour.
