AFTER The Nutcracker played to packed houses on its return to the Leeds Grand Theatre this winter, Northern Ballet has chosen Cinderella for its Christmas 2013 show.

The Leeds company will bring the rags-to-riches fairytale to the stage next December in a new production by artistic director David Nixon that will have its première at the Grand on December 17 and will tour nationally in 2014.

Cinderella will be Nixon’s 15th new full-length production for Northern Ballet, where he has been artistic director since 2001, and will be his second new ballet for 2013, following on from the world première and national tour of The Great Gatsby from March 2.

Cinderella is the fifth addition to Northern Ballet’s repertoire of family ballets, joining The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, A Christmas Carol and Beauty & The Beast.

The production will be choreographed and directed by David Nixon and co-directed by Patricia Doyle with set designs by Duncan Hayler.

Cinderella will run from December 17 at the Leeds Grand, where The Great Gatsby’s world premiere dates will be March 2 to 9, ahead of a tour whose further Yorkshire performances will be at Sheffield Lyceum Theatre from March 12 to 16 and Hull New Theatre from April 3 to 6.

The tour will conclude at London Sadler’s Wells from May 14 to 18. Box office: Leeds, 0844 848 2700 or leedsgrandtheatre.com; Sheffield, 0114 249 6000 or sheffieldtheatres.co.uk; Hull, 01482 300300 or hullcc.gov.uk/hullnewtheatre; London, 0844 412 4300 or sadlerswells.com
