As part of the Archbishop of York’s Year Of The Environment, the head gardener at Bishopthorpe Palace has written the last of his seasonal updates, letting visitors know what he and his team have been up to.
In the update, Garry O’Reagan explained that winter was the best time to design next year’s bedding schemes, and there were plenty of hard landscaping, paving, fencing, tree felling and pruning projects to be done too. He revealed that the team planned to install steps and a pathway along the riverbank, which would allow visitors to enjoy this part of the garden.
Garry said: “The conservation work continues and reports regarding the bats, tansy beetle, and all the flora and fauna will arrive during next year. I will ensure the website is updated,” he wrote.
The Archbishop, Dr John Sentanu, said: “I want to thank Garry not only for all his hard work in the garden but also for taking the time to write these updates for the website. We are custodians of a garden that has been created over hundreds of years and we hope to aid its growth and development for many generations to come.”
